A lorry that appears to have lost control on a steep hill before crashing into a garden wall is blocking a busy road in Ventnor this evening (Friday).
The Lidl-branded articulated lorry is currently stuck at the top of Spring Hill, where the road meets with Mitchell Avenue and St Boniface Road.
Police are on scene and traffic is being diverted locally. Southern Vectis Route 3 buses are also on diversion.
The crash occurred shortly before 18:20 following heavy rainfall. No one has been injured.
It is unknown at this stage why a Lidl delivery lorry was in Ventnor in the first place, with the nearest store being to the north – Shanklin.
Recovery agents have been called to the scene to assess the best way of moving the vehicle without causing any further damage.
Spring Hill is expected to remain closed for the next couple of hours.

so there was a lidle accident then hope nobody was hurt perhaps this was caused by navigation error satnavs can go wrong at times and maybe the poor driver got lost simple accident
To many large vehicles on island roads these days not surprised this has happened
Oh, you know about all this do you?
So how do you expect shops to get there delivery’s Kevin??
Hooray at last someone’s got it right. Island roads not suitable for this type of traffic. SatNav – try a map and human contact.
Staglane will get the job done in no time
Correction Spring Hill, St Boniface Road and Mitchell Avenue!
Possibly sat nav error?. Looks like he has also lost traction and slid backwards. As long as no one hurt. The hills around Ventnor can be a nightmare when wet.
Really!!!
These lorries can weigh up to 42 tonnes!! Easily lose control up these steep hills when pouring with rain
You again? What are you moaning about now?
Satnavs strike again!
Just don’t worry, no one hurt
So just get on with life !!!!!
It’s probably the stupid divertion signs all over the place
A liddle out of their way me thinks.
I was brought up 100metres from that junction.
From the give way line, the road is flat for barely 5-10 metres, then drops sharply downhill. It’s a distinct hump.
Artics often had difficulties, as the cab is on the level, with the trailer hanging down the hill.
On a greasy surface the driver may well have difficulties moving away. Then, once it starts sliding back there’s no control.
More bad driving on the I o w
