This is your weekly round-up of some of the latest court cases heard at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.

Monday 29th May – Friday 2nd June 2023
• Alan Tinsley, 38, of Pilkington Court, Ryde pleaded guilty to possession of a Class A drug (heroin) and Class B drug (cannabis). He was fined £120 and ordered to pay a surcharge of £48.
• Leanne Sadler, 54, of Pilkington Court, Ryde pleaded guilty to possession of a Class A drug (heroin). She was fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a surcharge of £48.
• Stephen Johnston, 43 of Lake Green Road, Sandown pleaded guilty to 2x drug driving (benzoylecgonine and cocaine). He was given a 12 month driving ban, fined £461 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £184.
• Jane Hill, 39, of Acorn Gardens, East Cowes pleaded guilty to a malicious communications offence. She was fined £200 and ordered to pay costs of £85.
• Jamie Lane, 23, of Gort Road, East Cowes pleaded guilty to burglary other than dwelling. He was ordered to pay compensation of £200 and costs of £85.
• Guy Watson, 32, of Royal Buildings, Penarth pleaded guilty to 2x drug driving (benzoylecgonine and ketamine) and possession of a Class B drug (ketamine). He was disqualified from driving for 23 months, fined £120 and ordered to pay costs of £85.
• Steven Yeo, 26, of George Street, Ryde pleaded guilty to 2x assault by beating of an emergency worker and 1 count of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress thereby. He was fined £216, ordered to pay costs of £250 and a surcharge of £86.
• Kristian Dixon, 50, of Monkton Street, Ryde pleaded guilty to drug driving (cannabis). He was disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a surcharge of £48.
• Samuel Dyer, 30, of High Street, Ventnor pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon in a private place and sending by means of a public electronic communications network messages that were grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character. He was fined £576 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £230.
• Andrew Marshall, 38, of Avenue Road, Sandown pleaded guilty to 2x drug driving (benzoylecgonine) and 1x drug driving (THC). He was disqualified from driving for 3 years, ordered to do 80 hours of unpaid work, complete a 19 day Thinking Skills Programme and ordered to pay a surcharge of £114.

• Andrew Taylor, 42, of Fort Street, Sandown for theft from a shop.
• Oliver Cooper, 19, of Whitcombe Road, Newport for drug driving (cannabis).
• Joseph Barrass, 29, of Union Road, Ryde for 2x driving while disqualified and 2x driving without insurance.
• Karen Powell, 41, of Sunset Close, Freshwater for drug driving (cannabis).



























































































How is Joe Barris been not only able to get a car,but drive. Clearly probably driving around every day but only been caught couple of times. Wonder if driving a clonned motor at moment. His number of prison sentences have had no effect. One day he will kill someone.
Why is possession of class a being dealt with by soft magistrates? It carries a maximum of 7 years in prison

as you quite rightly state its guidance the sentencing guidelines that is. All sentencing should not only be the punishment but also a deterrent that’s the bit that’s missing deterring others from following. Let’s see what would happen if someone gets say 5 to 7 years
