Two-time English Kickboxing Champion, Jess Roper, is touring several Island schools this week as part of her mission with Sports for Schools – raising future champions, beyond the belts, titles, and trophies. Jess, who is also a second dan black belt, has reigned as a double champion since 2019 in 2 weight categories: under 53.5kg and under 56kg, both sanctioned under the esteemed World Ring Sport Association. However, Jess’s impact transcends further than titles and sporting accolades as she tours schools nationwide, completing her 100th school just before heading to the Island for her 101st, having reached out to over 20,000 students in just over 2 years. Her message is clear: ‘Dream big, start small, never give up’. Jess embodies the belief that every champion needs support and more to thrive and she understands that the toughest fights often occur within one’s own mind. On her mission, Jess has said:
“Every champion has a coach in their corner. Everyone needs that support and encouragement, positive role models, the right environment. Becoming a champion beyond the belts, titles and trophies shows where ‘becoming a champion’ means becoming the best that you can be at what YOU choose to do.”
Reflecting on her own challenges, Jess emphasises the significance of mental fortitude. She believes that true champions conquer their inner battles, emerging stronger and more resilient. By sharing her experiences, she inspires young minds to confront their own adversities head-on, helping to create a generation of individuals equipped to face life’s challenges with courage and determination. During her Island tour, Jess is visiting St Catherine’s, Oakfield C of E, St Saviours Primary, Barton Primary and Priory School, and she leaves an indelible mark on every school she’s visited, igniting a spark of ambition and determination in the hearts of students.
