Ryde Rowing Club’s Men’s Junior Senior Four of Stephen Johnson, Adam Edwards, Ollie Gove and James Cleary, with Sam Brading coxing, returned to winning ways at Bournemouth Regatta on Saturday (26th July) following their first defeat of the season at Southsea the week before.
The crew, who have already secured the Hants & Dorset ARA Championship, had a small lead going into the turn over their great rivals from Lymington but pulled away on the return leg to win comfortably in the near perfect conditions.
There were further strong performances from the Wightlink-sponsored club with the Ladies Junior Pair of Steph Kissick and Jodie Cocker finishing in 2nd place to the host Club from Westover & Bournemouth Rowing Club and Senior Sculler Mick Jenner finishing 3rd in his final.
The Men’s Novice A crew of Sam Brading, James Smith, Callum Lockhart and Will Ford with Austin Smith coxing produced one of their strongest performances of the season to finish in 3rd place in their final. The young Novice B Crew of Ben Toms, Tom Kearney, Joel Smith and Dom Douglas, with an average age of just 15, raced well but failed to make the final.
