Islanders are being invited to a free drop-in event aimed at helping people feel more confident having conversations about death, dying and end-of-life wishes.
Isle of Wight High Sheriff Nigel Hartley MBE will host the informal public session at Newport Minster on Saturday 26th September between 10:00 and 13:00.
The event forms part of the High Sheriff’s ‘My Life. My Death. My Plan.’ campaign with Mountbatten, which aims to encourage people to talk openly about death and dying and make their wishes known.
Under the banner ‘Let’s have words’, the drop-in sessions will focus on how to approach conversations which many people can find difficult, particularly when discussing end-of-life wishes with family and friends.
Those attending will be able to join Nigel Hartley for informal sessions offering guidance on finding the right words to begin potentially challenging conversations.
The event is free to attend and there is no need to book, meaning members of the public can drop in at any point between 10:00 and 13:00.
Newport Minster’s café will also be open for refreshments during the event.
The High Sheriff’s campaign is being run with Mountbatten and supported by a number of Island organisations, including the Isle of Wight Council, NHS Isle of Wight, Age UK Isle of Wight and Carers IW.
