Pickle & Dill, the family-run deli on Union Street, Ryde, has received national attention this week after comedian and podcast host Joe Wilkinson praised their breakfast on his show.
Wilkinson visited the deli in August while on the Isle of Wight and ordered their traditional Spanish breakfast, pan con tomate – a dish rooted in the family’s years living in Spain, where it was a staple before school each morning. The deli prepares it using Isle of Wight tomatoes, grated fresh in the Spanish style.
During his visit, Wilkinson asked chef Bob how the dish was made and chatted with the team.
This week, on his podcast, he gave Pickle & Dill an enthusiastic shout-out, telling listeners:
“These guys do grated tomato – I had it for breakfast and it was f*g great!”
Following the mention, the deli has renamed the dish “Joe’s Toast” in his honour, reflecting both the comedian’s visit and the growing interest in the Spanish-inspired breakfast.
Pickle & Dill continues to champion simple, high-quality food made with local produce, and the team say they are delighted by the unexpected recognition.
