Junior Captain Alfie Boxall and Chris Wilkinson claimed the top honours as Westridge Golf Club contested the British Lung Foundation Trophy on Sunday.
The BLF Trophy, Westridge’s monthly major for September, was played in calm but overcast conditions on Sunday (13th September), with both the Scratch and Handicap competitions closely fought.
In the Handicap competition, Bob Singh-Bansi set the early pace with a net 61 before Wilkinson returned an impressive 7-under-par net 57 to clinch the trophy.
Louise Webb, another late starter, secured 3rd place with a net 62.
The Scratch competition proved equally competitive, with Singh-Bansi again holding the early lead before Past Captain Zane Cohen moved to the top of the standings with a 69.
Cohen remained in front until the final group returned, when Junior Captain Alfie Boxall, fresh from his opening weeks at Golf College, carded a 68 to take the title.
Cohen held on to 2nd place, while Co-Club Captain Mark Royl made a credible defence of his title by finishing 3rd with a 70.
Elsewhere during the week, Ian Couse topped Division 1 of Wednesday’s Stableford with 39 points, while Martyn Wakefield won Division 2 with 36 points.
Lorraine Swallow won the Ladies 9 Hole Stableford with 21 points, while George King took the honours in the 9 Hole Stableford with 19 points.
