Work to repair failed street lighting along Sandown Esplanade, including the installation of around 400m of new cable following recurring electrical problems, was due to begin on Monday but has still not started.
Hundreds of metres of new electrical cable are being installed along Sandown Esplanade after recurring faults left its street lights out of action.
The street lights along the Esplanade have not been working properly since early August, with temporary lighting towers brought in by Island Roads while the problem is addressed.
Island Echo is told that the area has suffered from a recurring electrical fault for a number of years, with ground movement understood to be among the issues affecting the infrastructure.
Local councillor Rob Newton confirmed that repairs to the failed street-lighting cable were due to begin on Monday (14th September); however, as of yesterday (Wednesday), no work had begun.
Around 400m of new cable will be installed in short sections along the seaward side of the Esplanade.
The works are expected to take between 5-6 weeks.
No road closures are planned as part of the works, although some parking bays may need to be temporarily suspended while repairs take place.
