At least 3 people and 2 dogs have been involved in a serious collision near Medina College this afternoon (Monday) as 1 driver is suspected to be recieveing medical treatment for his injuries.
The collision, involving a white Ford Mondeo which was carrying 2 dogs, a green Skoda Yeti and silver Lexus has occured some 30 metres past Medina College heading towards Racecourse where traffic is significantly building.
Reports first came in at around 15:20, with eye witnesses telling Island Echo that a loud bang could be heard from up and down the carriageway.
On scene firefighters from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are on scene alongside police officers and paramedics who are working to assess any injuries as well as control the flow of traffic.
It is believed that at least one person has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance for further treatment.
Significant traffic delays are expected in the area and areas surrounding this afternoon as tail back in both directions. It is understood that motorists travelling down the dual carrigeway are also facing delays, with the carrigeway at a standstill.
Island Echo understands that officers on scene are working to clear the traffic, with a one-way system in place.
Motorists being advised to avoid the area where possible.
