This letter is in response to the recent introduction of new waste charges at the Isle of Wight’s Household Waste Recycling Centres.
Letter to the editor – Tuesday 15th September
“I had a booking for 10:00, the usual queuing and people turning in from the other side of the road was taking place. The man at the gate was pleasant I asked if there had been any problems since the charges, he replied “surprisingly no.”
Article continues below this advertisement “I proceeded to the drop off area, unloaded the general bags I had and some plastic and was about to unload the wood and was approached by a woman who said that I was only allowed 2 bags of wood.
“I challenged that what I had was not over the limit to be told “it was not me it’s the council.” And told that it would be £10. I declined and took the wood away.
“I have 2 points here, 1 if I would have turned up with a van load of wood, would it still only be £10? Point 2, I use a van to go to the centre so I had one of my 12 allowances removed from my permit yet I brought the wood away with me.
“Does the council think this is fair?
“Won’t this put more stress on the bin collectors as people will put it in their bins? Is this going to create more fly tipping?”
