Conservative’s Joe Robertson has secured his place in Westminster as a Member of Parliament for Isle of Wight East. Islanders headed to the polls yesterday (Thursday) to cast their vote with a turnout in the East of 34,149 (61.14%). Across the Island as a whole, the turnout was 68,517 (61.58%) – notably less than 2019’s 74,691 (66.09%). St Helen’s man Joe received a total of 10,427 votes securing a majority of 3,323 ahead of Reform’s Sarah Morris, who received 7,1o4 votes. It’s another victory for the Conservatives, who have held the Isle of Wight seat since 2001. Green’s Vix Lowthion came 3rd with 6,313 votes, followed by Labour’s Emily Brothers with 6,264 votes – just 49 votes separated the 2 candidates. Lib Dem Michael Lilley received 3,550 votes. Independent David Groocock lost his deposit as he did not secure 5% of the total votes cast, receiving just 420.
