A new stained glass ‘Tree of Life’ and ceramic art installation created by local residents has been unveiled at Havenstreet Community Centre following a series of community workshops funded by a Creative Island grant.
The project was the brainchild of Kirstie and Paul Hayler of Isle of Wight-based Firestone Studios, who proposed creating a stained glass Tree of Life alongside a collection of ceramic tiles for the Community Centre garden.
Havenstreet Community Association successfully secured a £1,000 grant from Creative Island to bring the idea to life.
Over 3 weekends in June, residents from Havenstreet and the surrounding area were invited to take part in the workshops, helping to create both the stained glass artwork and a ceramic tile ‘Heart’ that now form permanent features in the Community Garden.
The completed artwork was officially unveiled earlier this week (Tuesday), with the stained glass ‘Tree of Life’ and ceramic ‘Heart’ described as a fantastic addition to the garden.
Organisers say the project proved to be an outstanding success, not only resulting in the colourful new installations but also bringing people together, helping participants make new friendships and strengthening community ties through the creative workshops.
Havenstreet Community Association has thanked Kirstie and Paul Hayler of Firestone Studios, Creative Island and everyone who took part in the project, describing it as “a real community effort”.
