The Isle of Wight Festival has come to an end for another year with 2018 certainly taking its place as an unforgettable event, topped by a sterling closing performance from The Killers last night (Sunday).
Tens of thousands of revellers awoke to another day of seriously hot weather and blue skies across Newport ahead of a day crammed with not-to-be-missed music. Featuring on the line-up yesterday were The Pretty Things, Sheryl Crow, Camila Cabello, Travis, Van Morrison and Manic Street Preachers, among many many others.
Headliners The Killers really did kill it and were a stand-out performance of the entire weekend, as you one would expect. Prior to their mesmerising set the group hit a gym near Cowes for a pre-festival workout.
It wouldn’t be the Isle of Wight Festival without Starsailor frontman James Walsh. He performed over on the Hard Rock Stage, where he drew in festivalgoers in droves with a mixture of solo material, huge Starsailor hits including ‘Silence is Easy’ and ‘Good Souls’ and his rousing rendition of Coldplay’s ‘The Scientist’.
This year has been about celebrating 50 years since the first Isle of Wight Festival took place and the weather certainly made it an enjoyable year for all. The event once again passed without incident with what appears to be a successful Policing operation from all involved.
As revellers return to every corner of the country the big clean up begins at Seaclose Park. With temperatures rising as the week progresses it will certainly be a great challenge for the staff who work together to put on the festival each year.
