A compassionate 9-year-old girl from the Isle of Wight has donated 16 inches of her hair after deciding she wanted to help children who have lost theirs through cancer.
Felicity Coleman, who attends Carisbrooke Primary School, made the selfless decision to donate her treasured hair to The Little Princess Trust after coming to the realisation that she has ‘loads’ – and some young girls have none.
The Little Princess Trust provide free, real hair wigs to children and young people up to the age of 24 who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.
As well as providing real hair wigs that allow young girls to feel like themselves again, The Little Princess Trust have begun supporting the development of less aggressive and less toxic cancer treatments – which will hopefully eradicate the symptom of hair loss.
In 2016, thanks to those who fundraise for the charity, they were able to begin funding scientists researching paediatric cancer, which has now seen 158 research projects searching for kinder and more effective treatments for all childhood cancers.
When questioning why Felicity made such a unique and admirable decision, her grandmother Nicola said:
“She chose the charity because of all of the little girls who have lost their hair, which is very sad because she had loads to share.”
