Island Gig Rowing Club has announced the arrival of its brand-new set of oars, made possible through the generosity and support of local businesses, families, and community organisations.
The club would like to extend its sincere thanks to Simon Scott Jackson of SSJ Contractors, the Jupp Family, the Davis Family, Brian and Lorraine Harley, Bembridge Parish Council, and Marianne Sullivan for their valued sponsorship.
Their generosity has enabled the club to purchase essential new equipment, ensuring that community rowing can continue to be offered throughout the year. The new oars will help support both existing members and newcomers, making the sport more accessible to people of all ages and abilities.
Island Gig Rowing Club was founded 3 years ago in Bembridge and is now proudly based at Island Harbour Marina. Since its formation, the club has grown into a welcoming community, bringing people together through the enjoyment of Cornish gig rowing while promoting fitness, teamwork, and wellbeing.
To celebrate this exciting milestone, the club will be holding an Open Day on 22nd August, inviting members of the local community to come along, meet the team, and have a go at rowing. Whether you’ve always wanted to try the sport or are simply curious to find out more, everyone is welcome. No previous rowing experience is necessary.
