Winner David McBeath with IWCTTA Chairman Alex Rorke44 players – including 30 who travelled over from the mainland – entered the IWCTTA Mountbatten Charity Tournament at the IW Table Tennis Centre at Smallbrook. The level of table tennis ability was extremely high with a number of players ranked in the top 100 in England taking part, and there were some excellent matches. The best performance by an Island player came from Steve Mills, who reached the quarter finals. Last year’s winner Matt Ware beat Adam Laws in the first semi final whilst David McBeath beat Owen Brown in the other semi. In the final, David (ranked 5 in England) prevailed against Matt (ranked 38) in an exciting match. The winner received £500; the runner up £250 and the two semi finalists received £125 each. There was also an award of a Bribar Voucher for outstanding performance, which went toChun Kin Lee.
The trophy was presented to David by Alex Rorke, IW Table Tennis Association chairman, who thanked everyone for their attendance and their support; in particular, Rob Smith (organiser), Pat Thorley (refreshments) and Martin Dove (centre manager).
Alex said:
“The Association is delighted to organise this event. A high standard of play was clearly evident. I would like to thank all those involved with organising this tournament.”

It is estimated that between £1300 and £1400 has been raised for the Mountbatten Hospice, and a cheque will be presented by members of the IWCTTA committee in the near future.
