Following an online and in-store customer vote, Sainsbury’s stores across the Isle of Wight have announced the charities that will benefit from the supermarket’s Local Charity of the Year scheme for 2016-2017.
This year’s Local Charity of the Year programme began at the end of May, when colleagues shortlisted a maximum of 3 charities to be put forward to the customer vote. The following charities received the most votes and will receive a year’s worth of fundraising, awareness-raising, volunteering and donations from the store.
• Newport Store – Ability Dogs 4 Young People (for a second year)
• West Cowes Store – IW Night Shelter
• Sandown Local – Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance
• Ryde Local – Aspire Ryde
• Freshwater Local – Kissypuppy (for a second year)
To celebrate the announcement, a launch day will take place at the stores on 5th-7th August. Customers will get the chance to meet representatives from the charities and learn more about the work they do.
Paul Dyer, Store Manager at Sainsbury’s Newport said:
“I’d like to say congratulations to all the charities, it will be great to work with them. To see that Sainsbury’s will be supporting five different charities here on the island, supporting such a wide variety of great causes in our community is fantastic. My colleagues are really excited about all of our new partnerships.”
The Local Charity scheme is now in its eighth year. The scheme has raised over £11 million to support local charities since 2009.
