The biggest increases in COVID-19 cases on the Isle of Wight are once again being found in younger age groups.
Latest data from Public Health England, which breaks down the number of COVID-19 cases by age and date, has found in the week between 30th October and 6th November, those aged between 20 and 44 accounted for more than 40% of cases — as cases increased by 106 to 757.
Speaking at a meeting of the Isle of Wight Council’s Local Outbreak Engagement Board last Thursday, Simon Bryant, the Island’s director of public health said:
“We have seen it in younger age groups and as the infection is spreading through our community, the average age of those infected increases. More older people are getting it, who are likely to suffer worse impacts.”
Since the previous article on age groups, there have been 106 new cases of COVID-19 found on the Isle of Wight (correct as of Friday) — with double the amount of cases found in people aged 0 to 59 than the over 60s. In the 0 to 59 age group, 74 new cases have been found, with only 32 in the 60 plus category.
The figures, dating back to March, show of the 757 cases, 444 were in the 0 to 59 age range, compared to 313 in those aged over 60.
More cases have now been found in those aged 20 to 24 than any other age group, as 11 new cases were found in the 7 days up until 6th November — taking the total in that age category to 62. However, the biggest increase in that week was in the 30 to 34 age category where 12 new cases took the total 45.
Another 10 cases were found in the 40 to 44 age range, with nine new in those aged 50 to 54 and 8 in 75 to 79 age category.
University students not currently on the Island, but still registered to an Island address, may affect the total number of cases but officials have said it may only be a small number, and cannot give a figure.
There has recently been a spike in cases in the Isle of Wight’s school communities, with a number of new cases recorded — some of which is not yet reflected in the latest data breakdown.

Many of the elderly generally do not mix with so many different people as the young, or not so often, and most abide by rules and laws, so it is of no surprise.
The elderly need the vaccine soon, before all others, otherwise this country will save a fortune in not paying pensions, billions less costs for the health service, private pension funds gaining even more billions, more homes freed up for the young, less car accidents due to eyesight and reaction errors, less queues and less staff needed at shop tills etc whilst fussing over a 2p out of date coupon etc. Let us hope care comes before ‘savings’ to the administration of this vaccine.
The young should respect the elderly and understand that, as hard as it is to grasp, they, themselves, will be old one day, and God help them with this new ‘culture’ we are now seeing grow across Europe, where they have little respect for anyone else and a disregard for others lives.
Stay safe and hang in there a little longer cure on the way.
The vaccine is to kill off the elderly ill and disabled that cost the government too much just as you say not to save them watch and see no liability to the companies either when it happens.
This week alone we’ve seen groups of over 6 people during the college lunch break. The queue at the burger vans in Newport industrial estate seem to be ignoring all the guidelines; what chance of we got of being considered for end of lockdown in December. When are the individuals in this age group going to realise we ALL must adhere to guidelines.
That’s always been the case and not just on the island.
Generally because they are the ones with attitude – they don’t like to be told what to do and follow rules.
Indeed, the young will have the shock of their lives when the tyrannical new fascist government fully rears its ugly head. It’s getting there slowly.
Is there even any proof this virus exists?
Then if so why aren’t family allowed in “Covid” wards? NHS staff are allowed to and they’re allowed to go home even. Can’t be that deadly then…
Oh that’s right, you’re only allowed to see when it’s mass media propaganda like Sky News or BBC.
Then in which case why can’t families visit with the same PPE as those lovely people we were told to clap for, as if we lived in North Korea? It’s almost as if something is being hidden…
Bing Bong welcome to the awake club of people with intelligence using their own mind to seek other avenues of information and not the msm and government propaganda
I would have thought the 50,000 dead should be enough proof to all but only a few tw*ts like you.
Just seen a group of 3 women in Tesco probably aged between 25-30. Not one of them wearing a mask and chatting and laughing in the aisles. Picking up food, looking at it and putting it back on the shelves. No consideration for themselves or anyone else.
Fraudsters rarely stop telling lies, even when their deceit is proven beyond doubt.
this data is 10 days old so proves nothing. 0 to 60’s account for twice as many cases as the over 60’s well they also account for 70% of the island population. As for the 20 – 44 group being the biggest spreaders stats only prove they were the largest affected age range, funny enough the age of parents, so where is the spread coming from (the socially mixing kids, who are in part time bubbles). If every one on the island was tested the stats would then mean something, but this is moving so fast by the time the results were published the situation would be DIFFERENT!!
