The 20-24 years age group is the hotspot for COVID-19 cases on the Isle of Wight, the latest figures have revealed.
Cases in that segment are rising faster than any other age group according to figures released by Public Health England.
Between 23rd – 30th October, the latest data released, 59 new cases of the virus were found on the Isle of Wight, taking the total to 651. Of the increase, 45 cases were registered in those aged between 0 to 59 but only 14 in those aged 60 and above.
No new cases were recorded in children under the age of 14, those between 80 and 84 or those over 90.
The figures, dating back to March, indicate there are more cases in those under 60 than those over — with a gap of nearly 90 cases. 370 cases have been found in the younger age group than 281 in the older.
The biggest increase of cases in the 7 days up until 30th October was seen in young people aged between 20 and 24 with 11 new cases registered — taking the total in that age category to 51.
With 51 cases, that makes the 20 to 24 age range he second-highest on the Island for COVID-19 cases, as 54 cases have been found in those aged over 90.
Another 6 cases were also recorded in the 25 to 29 age range.
Increases were seen in the 55 to 59 age range as 7 new cases were recorded, 5 new in those aged 60 to 64 and 4 in the 45 to 49 category.
The total age breakdown of COVID cases can be seen in the table above, with the increased differences also shown.
Since the start of November more than 20 cases have been added to the Island’s coronavirus total, which is not available to breakdown by age yet.
No real surprises in the figures, if you work or go out and socialise the figures are going to be higher. Here’s hoping the lock-down bring the daily numbers catching it down.
This story could easily have been that children are least COVID spreaders? Or least recorded?
Rumour has it that the hospital has covid cases on nearly every ward, why are these not being separated into a covid ward or building???? Any managers wish to comment on this fiasco at the hosptial. This is just irresponsible and showing a total disregard for everyone’s safety.

Lets hope the Police will be active in keeping the under 30’s at home and act on reports of gatherings. The ones that break the lockdown are putting lives at risk and possibly stretching the NHS resources all for getting together. Idiots and selfish twats.
Just a small point. People of all ages are permitted to go out for fresh air etc for an unspecified time or as many times in the day as they wish. A point that is not always mentioned in political broadcasts.
Why is Concerned being voted down? People need to do as they are asked and follow social distancing rules, why is this so hard for people to follow and understand? Are they all thick? If some sort of normality is to return, then start acting in a responsible way. Simple.

They need to start taking responsibility for their obvious irresponsible actions. They don’t think they will get the virus, it’s old people that get it. Pubs should never have been allowed to reopen. Sorry, many probably don’t agree but this is where the virus can spread quickly and easily amongst the idiots who don’t keep their distance from each other. Restaurants yes, just pubs who serve just alcohol, no.
