The Island’s community has been thanked for its ‘incredible support’ for Mountbatten during the pandemic.
The charity’s chief executive, Nigel Hartley, has paid tribute to everyone who has rallied behind the hospice during the last 18 months. The support has helped Mountbatten continue to expand its services to reach more people on the Island who need its care.
Nigel Hartley said:
“We believe there is a bright future, even in the most challenging of times, and our relationship with our community bears testament to that. Hopefully, we will be able to continue our relationship with our community and people will keep supporting us.
“We are expecting a 30% drop in fundraised income over the next year and we know there are more challenges ahead. But we thank you for everything you have done for us and will continue to do into the future.”
During the last 18 months, Mountbatten has adapted many of its services to meet more people virtually, though home visits to patients and inpatient care has continued as normal.
With the easing of restrictions, more face-to-face activity is gradually returning, though measures remain in place to ensure patients, their families and friends, plus staff and volunteers, remain safe.
The AGM also marked the first year as Mountbatten Chair of Trustees for Sir Ian Cheshire. He said:
“It has not been anything as expected, yet it has confirmed to me the underlying strengths of Mountbatten, especially the quality of all our teams, together with the support of the communities we serve. On behalf of all the board, I would like to thank all our staff and volunteers who have supported us through this extraordinarily difficult period.
“And I would like to add my thanks to our communities, who have given us all huge confidence as we face up to the challenge of operating in the Covid world. Our mission to help with death, dying and bereavement is even more needed in the coming year, and we look forward to being able to continue to make a positive difference for our communities.”
