Isle of Wight school children are facing the prospect of heading to their new schools this September without ever having actually seen them first, thanks to the delay in the lifting of lockdown restrictions.
The announcement, affecting hundreds of children who are due to start school this year, comes following Government guidance which says that school transition days are unlikely to be feasible for the second year in a row.
Parents of children who are due to join Medina College, Christ the King College, and Carisbrooke College have already been approached by the schools to warn them of the cancellation of transition days, and several Isle of Wight primary schools have cancelled their Reception class taster days.
In response to the cancellations, an Isle of Wight Council spokesperson said that many transition events will be taking place online.
The spokesperson said:
“Following the recent change to the proposed end of COVID restrictions government guidance was issued which says that traditional transitional and open days are unlikely to be feasible this academic year.
“Whether to follow this is a matter for individual schools to decide but our understanding is that Island secondary schools are likely to comply with the new guidance, meaning that transition days will not take place.
“Schools are expected to make contact with students and families involved directly.”

Sounds like the end of the world to me.
Just like it always was. Why make such a big issue out of it
jeez -what is it with these snowflakes – years ago, you simply finished one school, had summer holidays and then turned up for day one at your new school – met up with friends from your previous school and viewed those joining the same year group as you, from other schools with sceptisism.
fast forward to 2021 and the whole place is in crisis, because they haven’t been desensitised to the new environment first – get a grip
Better employ some therapist to help the children cope after such trauma..guess in 10 years time it will give them an excuse for any wrongs they then do..
