Some 30 beaches across the South East of England will now be flying flags that tell the public they are among the best beaches in the country – including 4 on the Isle of Wight.
Keep Britain Tidy has awarded the Seaside Awarrd to beaches at Sandown, Shanklin, Seagrove and Springvale as they have been deemed to meet the very highest standards for cleanliness and facilities.
In addition, 11 of the region’s beaches will now be flying the Blue Flag Award – the international standard for the best beaches in the world – however the Isle of Wight has not been awarded any Blue Flags this year.
Keep Britain Tidy’s Coastal Awards manager Paul Todd said:
“It is great that we have been able to award more beaches this year with Blue Flag and Seaside Awards.
“As an environmental charity, Keep Britain Tidy is committed to improving the quality of the places where people live, work and holiday and these winners have proved their commitment to providing the best possible beaches for locals and visitors alike.
“The public can be sure, if they visit a Blue Flag or Seaside Award winning beach, that they are visiting one of the best beaches in the world”.
