Cowes Sports FC have announced that co-manager Ian Potts has stepped down from his managerial duties with immediate effect, but will remain with the club in a new off-the-pitch role.
‘Pottsy’ – who has shared managerial responsibilities with Mark Woodhouse since the departure of former boss Max Draper – helped guide the club through a difficult period last season. Together, the pair led the first team to a respectable 12th-place finish in the league and secured the Gold Cup.
Mark Woodhouse, co-manager, has said:
“Firstly, I’d just like to say that this is an exciting opportunity for the club to make excellent progress and with Ian in this new role, we couldn’t have a more passionate Yachtsman driving things forward at the club. I don’t see this as him stepping down, more stepping forward. I will still continue an excellent working relationship with Ian going forward.
“In terms of what this means for myself, I am excited and as determined as ever to continue to make footballing progress as a club. Jimmy Knight will be stepping up to take on more workload as part of the coaching team. We will also be on the lookout to bring in the right people to the coaching team if they become available.
“I love the club and it will be business as usual for me and the lads when we get back out on the pitch in our next game. Thank you Ian for all your support and I know this will continue in your new role.”
Cowes Sports have praised Ian Potts for his dedication and contribution to the club – both on and off the pitch – and look forward to his continued involvement as he focuses on supporting football operations.
The Yachtsmen are currently 16th in the Wessex Premier Division and remain determined to climb the table.
Cowes will look to bounce back from their recent 0-5 defeat to Petersfield United when they host Ventnor at the Zilch Waste Stadium on Wednesday in the Isle of Wight Gold Cup, before returning to league action at home to Portland United on Saturday.
