With temperatures rising and a heatwave sweeping across the UK, Southern Water say they are hitting peak demand for water – but that it is unlikely that a hosepipe ban will be imposed this Summer.
Water is a precious resource and it’s important that we all do what we can to reduce wastage, come rain or shine. This can include simple measures such as turning off taps when you’re brushing your teeth, swapping a bath for a 4-minute shower and watering your garden with harvested rain. can make a huge difference to water supply levels across the region.
Southern Water say that resources are currently at healthy levels across the region and therefore the Isle of Wight and surrounding counties are unlikely to see a temporary use ban this summer. However, should this dry weather continue over the longer term, the team say they do have clear plans in place to make sure they are fully prepared.
They are continuing to monitor the situation closely.
According to Ben Earl, Water efficiency manager for Southern Water, households across the region use 16% less water now than 8 years ago thanks to universal metering and a focus on fixing leaks.
