A sleep out event – designed to highlight the challenges of homelessness among ex-services members – will take place in Ryde later this month.
The pub use their profits to support homeless vets and their families as well as offering free respite breaks for those who need a bit of time away. Located on Esplanade in Ryde – in what used to be The Marine – the pub has also opened its doors to victims of flooding and fire.
The sleep out itself will take place between 12:00 on 21st March and 12:00 on 22nd March, and offers those who take part a chance to experience the conditions faced by homeless people not just on the Isle of Wight, but across the United Kingdom.
In attempts to simulate proper conditions as authentically as possible, no tents will be used with just cardboard and sleeping bags available.
The event is open to all who want to show their support and stand with veterans facing homelessness. Monies raised from the event will be used to fund local initiatives here on the Isle of Wight.
Duzz will be performing live at The Veteran on Friday evening.
A spokesperson from The Veteran has said:
“If anyone would like to sponsor us for our sleep out for homeless veterans please pop in the Veterans Lounge in the High St or The Veterans Hotel on the Esplanade in Ryde.”

Very worthy cause, our veterans deserve so much more than is given to them. They deserve our utmost respect, whatever their situation.
Sadly our country wants them to serve and
when they are no longer of service they are left
to rot on the scrap heap.
Makes me sick, my late father fought in WW2
and it ruined his life.
