Gritters will be out and about across the Island’s road network for the first time this season during the early hours of tomorrow morning (Wednesday).
Island Roads are anticipating low temperatures overnight, resulting in the fleet undertaking a full salt run from 03:00.
As previously reported by Island Echo, a cold weather alert has been issued by IW Met Service with the mercury set to plummet as the week goes on, bringing a risk of ice and snow by the weekend.
The usual gritting routes will be treated at 8gr/sqm with brine, with bridge decks at Stag Lane and Foxes Road in Newport also treated.
The salt supply at Island Roads’ winter maintenance depot at Stag Lane has already been topped up to a level of 1,600 tonnes ready for the season ahead.
To find a list of all the Island's gritting routes, you can visit our dedicated Isle of Wight Gritting Routes & Winter Maintenance page.

If Island Roads drop enough grit on the roads that should fill some of the pot holes a better fix than the flour and water pothole repair kit ..
Drive carefully people, going to be a cold winter this year.
