Winter is set to bite harder with forecasters predicting temperatures as low as -4c overnight across the Isle of Wight by the weekend, bringing a risk of ice and snow.
A cold weather advisory has been issued by IW Met Service today (Monday) and is valid from Wednesday evening right through until next Tuesday.
As the week goes on Islanders can expect to wake up to a hard frost with icy stretches on the roads, with the potential for the odd flurry of snow in places. Ponds and lakes could well freeze up too.
Tomorrow (Tuesday) will be another cloudy day with a moderate to fresh wind, with temperatures sitting at around 7c. However, by Wednesday it will be noticeably colder with 3-4c expected during the day.
As the week progresses the mercury is to plummet with daytime temperatures expected to range from just 1c to 4c. Nighttime temperatures will fall as low as -4c.
It will be colder still on Friday with temperatures sitting between freezing and 1c during the day, bringing a risk of snow flurries – particularly in the South Wight.
Locals should be aware of the possible health risks to the elderly, unwell or infirm. Islanders should check on family members, friends and neighbours and ensure they have a adequate heating.

Oooo it’s cold out here must be a problem with the atmosphere
Oh no!! It’s winter and it might get cold.
Wrap up warm people and remember to check on those elderly neighbours and relatives who might need some extra help during this cold snap!
This combined with extortionate food and heating/electric bills is just part of the WEF’s plan to create global equity, turning us and the rest of Europe/US etc into a third world country wherein once common items are now becoming more and more of a “luxury”
I see I’m being downvoted by a bunch of socialists…
Don’t you leftists have some working class people to spit on?
Agree groundskeeper , they want to reduce emissions they will achieve it raise utility prices, raise petrol / diesel we won’t use as much as can’t afford to ,,, big tick in the government’s box….. the government is sly as a fox
And people wonder why 1776 happened
It’s not our government anymore, this lot were not elected, they’ve been manouvered into place, we are now run by corporation interests, look up the IMF website, its all there, they are the genesis of this terrible age..this is where ‘build back better’ spawned from, the IMF’s nonsense progressive marxism is achieved though global bankruptcy and woke disorder.
Very true. They don’t want people to travel either.
The WEF are e v i l
We will “own nothing and be happy”
It still surprises me that we need to be ‘advised’ that it gets cold in winter. Come on guys, it’s December, aren’t we expecting it to get cold?
But, it seems to be par for the course these days that we seemingly get warnings about everything.
It’s because they the people who think they are brighter as they work in the council offices and government think everyone else are thick and can’t work out its winter.
Its never wise to call out a group/person for believing everyone else is thick and do so in a barely intelligible way.
No harm in advising people beforehand
I agree with your comment Catherine. A slight but of wind and it’s named as if it’s a hurricane!
I can remember winters in the 1970s when my Mum used to bring her washing indoors off the washing line in December and it was all frozen stiff. Used to make me laugh to see my Dad’s socks and vests frozen solid. LOL
This country has turned woosy!!!!!
Oh dear does that mean it will be like winters in the 1970s and 1980s. Gee I don’t know how we will be able to cope.Houses will be a lot warmer this winter than in those days so get on with it and stop moaning.
Agree, dam snowflakes…….!
Who can afford adequate heating? I can’t see how a great %of homes especially on The Island will be warmer than the 70’s or the 80’s?please explain that comment?
Easy no double glazing or central heating in those days just coal fires that kept the front of you warm and your backs freezing. Bet there won’t be many houses with ice on the insides of windows this year unlike in those days
“…….and ensure they have a adequate heating.”
Are they having a laugh? Whos the hell can afford “adequate heating”???
Rishi Sunak?
Bob Seely?
Those that regularly vote Tory on the IOW…
Bring on global warming
Maybe Energy Companies could “freeze” increases for a few months.
December and January are usually the coldest months.
It’s winter ,so of course it’s going to get cold ,put up with it all or shut up !!!! ,it’s not the first winter we’ve had .
