The Isle of Wight Green Party has announced that it intends to make a significant breakthrough in the 2017 County Council elections, one year from today (Wednesday).
The party has launched a fighting fund appeal to pay for staff and the printing of leaflets. Until now, all Green Party activity on the Island has been the work of unpaid volunteers, and leaflets have been paid for by local supporters.
The appeal can be found at https://isleofwight.greenparty.org.uk/donate.html.
Daniel James, chair of the Island branch of the party, said:
“Very little of the money paid to the national Green Party in membership fees and donations trickles back to the Island, so today we’re launching our own ‘Green Council 2017’ fighting fund, to be raised and spent locally. If every Islander that voted Green in 2015 gave just £1 per week, we would build a fighting fund of over £489,000 in the year ahead. We could achieve so much with only a tenth of that amount.”
