Fire crews from Freshwater and Newport worked to free a retriever from some mud this morning (Friday).
The incident occurred near Yarmouth Mill and saw Ted, an 11-month-old canine, become stuck in the mud whilst out on a morning walk.
Though it was called for, the RSV from Newport complete with the animal rescue gear wasn’t needed, with firefighters able to free Ted normally using some dog treats to persuade him.
After the incident, firefighters were treated to some refreshments courtesy of local restaurant, Off The Rails.

Silly dogs. They do love to find new ways to get into trouble. Glad to see dog is now safe. 🙂
Good to see the dog got out with just a free treat encouragement. Still, full on firefighter rescue operation with free tea, cakes and photo opportunity wasn’t to be sniffed at…
So was there any need for the fire engine to be on full blues and twos while bullying their way through the road works and traffic lights on the Yarmouth bridge….
Would you have said that if it were a stupid child stuck in the mud?
Dogs have feelings, fear, and can easily die as any child, and animals don’t know any better so need our help
I think it is great that we have a fire service here who can in stretched times still help animals in trouble.
The fire engine had the 120db siren on all along the approach to Yar bridge even though he could see pedestrians walking alongside the traffic lights.
120db is enough to cause hearing damage (which is why the driver wears ear protecters).
For a shout to get a stuck dog out it just wasn’t necessary. (Lets also forget about how much it cost to get two crews out, one from Newport)
You wouldn’t be making such a stupid comment if it was your pet???!!
It was the owner who was stupid as the dog should have been on a lead.
Often see dogs running in the mud along the causeway, chasing birds and swans with the devoted owner looking on adoringly.
He’ll have to go in the bath when he gets home
And if he’d been on a lead?….
Er, why couldn’t the owner tempt him out with treats?
