An empty Seaview salon could be given a makeover as plans are unveiled to turn it into a holiday let.
The Pier Road shop used to be the town’s Post Office but after it closed in 2015, the premises was taken over by the salon.
The beauty salon has been closed and empty since January 2020 and there have been unsuccessful attempts to sell the site as a commercial business.
Plans have now been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council, by Mr M. Suter, to transform the shop into a holiday let, with parts of the building demolished and the front altered.
Planning agent on behalf of the developer, John Gosling, said in documents the let would be a good quality addition to the tourist accommodation in the popular area. Mr Gosling said through its guests it would support the shops and services in Seaview.
The proposed alterations on the front would be painted white in keeping with other properties on Pier Road.
So far 4 supportive comments have been made on the plans with 1 saying it would greatly improve the appearance of the building, which has become an eyesore since it shut. Another said they would like to see more shops but after years of having a blank space on the road it has to move on.
You can view the plans, 22/00607/FUL, on the council’s planning register. Comments can be submitted until 10th May.

I guess all the second home owners in Seaview don’t need a post office
Services of the post office are operated from Seaview Pharmacy now
Will it be affordable? (Someone had to say it).
If there really are around 2,000 people on a waiting list for housing (as a different story told us) then why are the Council giving permission to convert this property to a holiday let? Why not convert to a home for one of these people apparently wanting them?
Brings back memories, I was a paperboy there around about 1982 (Falklands war headlining most days),
Then run by Mr Dobson.
With the island screaming out to house the locals, a holiday let is just whats needed.
Step forward the NIMBY’S
The council buy and own lot’s of properties, …..Perhaps they could buy it and use it for a deserving family?????
And maybe if they do that we wouldn’t need to keep building 2nd homes or holiday let’s !?!?
Think local !!!!!!
Think further than the end of their noses!!!
Homes for locals first and foremost …..
I’m sure the shops and services will benefit from the 10 or 12 weeks a year use.
