A flood warning is now in force for the Eastern Yar, meaning residents in Whitwell, Wroxall, Langbridge and Alverstone should be on high alert and ready to take action.
The Environment Agency says that the water level on the Eastern Yar is very high and rising with 30mm of rain was recorded at Wroxall in the past 12 hours.
Currently, flooding is affecting land, footpaths and cycle tracks in the area. Upstream at Budbridge, the river has only just peaked. From 16:00 it may begin to affect access tracks at Horringford.
At Alverstone and Langbridge, the river will continue to rise until at least midnight, but will remain high for several hours after that time, into the early hours of Sunday morning. As the river peaks, it could just be high enough to impact and flood a small number of properties next to the river at Alverstone.
If you use pumps to help reduce water levels, you should ensure they can operate. Residents should also be ready to turn off utility supplies and be ready to move items, pets, cars and family members to a place of safety.
A flood alert is in place for St John’s in Ryde, the River Medina, Gurnard Luck and the Lukely Brook in Newport.

And STILL the RSPB keep the water level of Brading Marsh artificially high
It was under water until sea walls were built at Bembridge and Yaverland. Its being kept artificially low.
Ok. Lets just flood it and go back yo roman times – idiot
Maybe the environment agency should clear the damn ditches then
southern water have built massive drainage under morton common. it doesnt help when we get heavy rain.
its a marsh. it floods. dredging wont help.
Let it flood, then at least ONE piece of East Wight won’t have the Pinks, aided by their co uncil chums allowing it to be built over.
