A local social enterprise and fostering provider, Five Rivers Child Care, has opened its new office hub on the Isle of Wight.
The Hub will provide local training, events, and support space for the growing community of foster carers, helping to positively change the lives of children in need on the Island.
Local staff and foster carers recently celebrated the official opening with a drop-in cake and coffee morning session.
The Fostering Services Manager, Kate Ennis, said:
“The event has been positive, and it is great to see our dedicated foster carers stop by and see our new office space in Newport. The carers welcomed the Hub and are positive about meeting staff and carers closer to home; they were also excited about having somewhere for the children they look after to enjoy activities.”
Establishing a central fostering hub on the Island brings much-needed services back to the local area. Five Rivers Child Care is committed to training and supporting foster carers close to home; the Hub will mean local carers do not need to travel as far and can come together face to face more often.
It is hoped that the local service may also encourage more people to consider fostering, as there is a drastic shortage of foster carers on the Island.
On upcoming plans for the Hub, Kate said:
“Next steps will be to establish a regular programme of activities for our children and carers to enjoy. Support groups are being organised, as well as face-to-face training, and we are looking forward to developing our services on the Island.”

Oops- clearly offering far more than local authority cares get
Far too many woman having unwanted children now. Use the free contraception available or abort as we don’t want to fund someone else’s one nights stands scrotums content for ever
A huge proportion of these unwanted children are from more ‘recent’ arrivals to the UK. They use dim British woman to gain a foothold into being able to stay here by ‘fathering’ a child then dumping the dim womb owner, flattered by the attention of a younger fit arrival, when they are often old, flabby or unattractive, yet we get left to fund the one night stands results for life, whilst the sperm depositor has moved on to the next flattered fool womb owner. Hence more schools now resemble the United Nations creshe.
Omg you are so right, I worked in a bar on the mainland, and these new arrivals hang around in small groups, looking for wasted older women, who as you say are easy prey for flattery. Hence so many murky children in buggies being pushed by single, not too attractive white mothers, and many more dumped in adoption and foster homes.
All costing society a fortune. But of course it give the father the right to remain. The cheap labour plan failed miserably.
Hasn’t this actually replaced Local Authority services?
These are in direct competition with the local authority who do not have enough carers. The irony is the local authority will have no choice but to use these foster agencies as they few carers of their own. Five Rivers will charge an extortionate amount of money in return…no wonder social care is such a mess when companies like this profiteer from children’s misery with public money
