The headless body of a cat found in Avenue Road, Sandown last weekend could have been the victim of the ‘M25 killer’, according to SNARL – South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty.
The remains of a much-loved pet named ‘Fleabag’ have been taken to London for a post-mortem examination to determine whether or not the cat was murdered, or if the upsetting situation was simply one of nature. But Tony Jenkins from the London-based charity says he is confident that Fleabag’s death is suspicious:
“I have collected some 70+ bodies and whilst I’m not a pathologist, I can recognise when a cat’s head has been cleanly removed with a knife. Of the 28 cases confirmed by post mortem I collected nearly all of them”.
The head of Fleabag is still missing.
Tony is advising Islanders to remain vigilant and keep pets indoors at night as the suspected killer could still be on the Island and if so, ‘will most probably strike again’.
Just a year ago in August 2015 there was another suspected case, also in Sandown, where a cat was found sliced cleanly from the neck to the groin.
According to SNARL the neighbours who found Fleabag, the Police officers who attended the scene and the collector from Island Roads were in agreement that the head was not removed by a fox, as many have thought.
Fleabag’s owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, has said:
“He was such a special little chap, very loving and so trusting and friendly. He was so comical. I will miss the laughter and loving cuddles he gave.
“I am devastated by his brutal passing and cannot express my great sadness.
“Rest in peace my little Fleaflea”.
