A project to improve the drainage and road surface in Latimer Road, St Helens is to be carried out by Island Roads from today (Monday).
The work is expected to last 3 weeks after which the carriageway will be resurfaced.
It is the second drainage scheme Island Roads is currently working on with a scheme in Guyers Road at Freshwater also underway and progressing well.
At Latimer Road, the work will be undertaken from the junction of Station Road to the junction with Dove Close. The hours of work will be between 07:30 and 18:00. Though the road will be closed to through traffic both day and night, access will be maintained for residents and pedestrians throughout the drainage work.
The scheme involves reconnecting and improving the old gulley system and the installation of pre-cast concrete channel blocks to direct rainwater from the carriageway into the new gullies.
Keith Gourlay, Island Roads construction manager, said:
“The drainage work will ensure that surface water is taken away from the highway more effectively. Not only does this result in improved roads drainage and therefore improved driving conditions, it also helps to prolong the life of a road as standing surface water is a known cause of defects.”
