Police have been forced to divert traffic away from a flooded road in Shanklin tonight (Monday).
Torrential downpours have led to flooding on several roads, including Sandown Road between Lake and Shanklin. It’s said the road is impassable near to Flintcroft Gardens.
Morton Common near Brading is also said to be bad in places, with all roads in the East Wight generally waterlogged.
In the past hour, drain covers in Brading High Street have been lifted as a result of the sudden torrent of rainwater in the area.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms pose a risk throughout across the Isle of Wight tonight and into Tuesday morning.
UPDATE @ 23:58 – Island Echo is receiving reports that properties are now starting to flood in several areas including Bembridge.
UPDATE TUESDAY @04:10 – A flood alert has been issued by the Environment Agency for the Monktonmead/St John’s area of Ryde this morning.
Emergency road closures are in place on Well Street in Ryde, Briddlesford Road near Wootton and High Street, Brading. Sandown Road, Lake has now re-opened, however.
UPDATE @ 08:33 – Emergency closures implemented overnight have now been lifted save for Well Street in Ryde, which remains closed due to a sink hole. If the drains were emptied more often it would help
Road is now clear, and drains have been pumped to help with the influx of water, Thank you to everyone for sharing and turning around. Its nice to no be back home in warm clothing.
Yet building ever more houses will add to the misery of the vulnerable now and forever.
some drivers that think they are invincible driving at speed on the wet roads that obviously have no idea about stopping distances on wet tarmac. Someone have a word!
