Residents from Old Charlton House in Cowes have been getting up close to monkeys, gibbons and owls during a series of visits to Monkey Haven over the past few weeks.
Groups from the care home have been exploring the Isle of Wight attraction, clocking up an impressive amount of walking while seeing the animals.
Among the highlights were the monkeys and their antics, with residents particularly enjoying watching a group playing with Duplo.
The gibbons also made a lasting impression thanks to the loud noises they make each morning to establish their territory, with residents likening the sounds to sirens, with the calls eventually winding down as though the gibbons had “run out of batteries”.
Residents also stopped for refreshments at the Monkey Haven café during their trips.
The attraction’s owls were a particular favourite with resident Annie, who found being able to see them up close especially memorable.
She said the owls were wise and described the experience of getting close to them as “very special”.
The groups also listened to keeper talks, bringing some of their newfound knowledge back to Old Charlton House to share with fellow residents.
A total of 15 residents visited Monkey Haven, with the care home saying they had a marvellous time and were very glad they went.
Debbie Webb, Activities Coordinator, has said:
“It’s been amazing to see the residents doing so much walking, and to witness the joy they have expressed watching the monkeys.
“These trips have been very beneficial to their wellbeing and happiness.”
