Two special engagement events titled ‘Take control of your care’ are being staged by the Isle of Wight Council at Ryde and Newport next Wednesday (28th September).
The key drop-in sessions are seeking the views of Island residents who may be required to purchase and manage their own care – as well the views of their carers, families and advocates.
The sessions are asking people how they might be better informed and helped to be more confident in making those key and crucial decisions on their existing and future care.
Attendees will be told about a potential simple route that may put them, their carers and families in control and at ease; how they can find out about better quality at a fair price; and how they can seek out a greater choice and variety of provider.
The Council is running the sessions in partnership with its partner ‘adam’, with which it is already working in areas including the commissioning and payment of homecare, and care home placement (adam is a software company which also works with a number of mainland councils and clinical commissioning groups).
The sessions will ask attendees if some new accessible, web-based options offered through adam might assist them.
The sessions on Wednesday 28th September, which offer a choice of location for attendees, are being held at:
• The Riverside Centre, Newport (09:30-10:30)
• Aspire Community Café, Dover Street, Ryde (14:00-15:00)
There is no need to book attendance, but if you would like to confirm you are able to attend, contact the Council on 01983 821000 (ext: 6567) or email [email protected].
As well as the sessions for the care of individuals, their carers and families – there will also be 2 other drop-in events for providers of care, also on Wednesday 28th September – with a choice of the Riverside Centre, Newport (11:00-12 noon) or Aspire Community Café, Dover Street, Ryde (15:30-16:30). These sessions will bring together national and local knowledge within health and social care, and will engage with providers about opportunities for better processes for them to offer their services and ensuring fairness and transparency for all.
There is also no need to book for these sessions, but attendees can contact the council on 01983 821000 (ext: 6567) or email [email protected].
Executive member for adult social care, Councillor Steve Stubbings, said:
“We would strongly encourage people to attend these sessions to let us know their views and to find out about new options which may help to make their lives easier at that crucial point when they are making decisions about their own care or that of their loved ones.
“These sessions will hopefully assist recipients of care and their carers and families on the Island, as well as providers of care, in options to seek and secure an easier, fairer and more comforting future.”
