CycleWight will once again be celebrating all things cycling at Merstone Station next Saturday (3rd May), with a free community event running from 10:00 to 15:00.
The event, now in its third year, will feature led rides from Cowes, Newport, Sandown and Ventnor, bringing cyclists together ahead of the popular Isle of Wight Randonnee the following day.
Tim Thorne, Chair of CycleWight, has said:
“It is a joyful event.”
Visitors can look forward to a range of attractions including:
- Cargo bike demos with Keert
- Cycling-themed gifts at Recycle & Bicycle
- Refreshments from Scarrots Lane Bakery and Really Awesome Coffee
- Bike try-outs with Isle Access
- Storytelling sessions
- A family photo competition
- Picnic seating areas
Details of the led ride start points and times will be available on CycleWight’s website and Facebook page. Those unable to join the group rides can download a local map created by Gift To Nature, which highlights bridleways and lanes to reach Merstone Station (PO30 3DD, OS map ref SZ527845).
Toilets will be available at the site and attendees are welcome to bring their own picnics. CycleWight will also be hosting a stand where visitors can share ideas for future cycling campaigns on the Isle of Wight.
More information can be found at www.cyclewight.org.uk.
Oh Fcuk, what with the Randonnee event taking
place on Sunday.
That’s me sorted I am going away for the weekend.
I cannot bear the thought of all these cyclists
holding each others hands riding side by side
pissing off “US”motorists who pay to be on the road
unlike selfish cyclists.
Think Car and Think Van
Lol
The island does not have enough cycle lanes to encourage
such cycling events.
Thanks for your contribution, even though it’s childish, hysterical, inaccurate, insulting nonsense. As you say, please do go away for the weekend… perhaps a bit longer Lol
You need to visit Specsavers, you can’t tell me
that you have not driven along many island Roads
and you have not seen a bunch of selfish cyclists
riding in groups holding each others hands.
I seem to be the only person who witnesses such
events.
Also look at the amount of cyclists who cycle at
night on island roads with no lights on their bikes.
I cannot wait for the weekend, get ready Salcombe
here I come.
