A popular Indian restaurant in Cowes — which once played host to billionaire businessman Richard Branson — has improved its food hygiene rating. Following a reinspection at the end of January, Bahar Tandoori, on Cowes High Street, now boasts a 4 out of 5, or ‘Good’ rating. If follows an inspection in October when environmental health officers found major improvements were necessary and “generally poor standards”, resulting in a 1-star review. After the Isle of Wight Council released the inspection report, the management at Bahar Tandoori apologised to its customers and said it had ‘taken swift and decisive corrective actions’ to address the issues. Now in an update, the restaurant’s management has said while it was aiming for the highest food health and hygiene – a 5– the 4 reflects its commitment to improving and maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, hygiene and food safety in its restaurant. It said:
“We would like to extend our gratitude to our dedicated staff who have consistently worked hard to ensure a safe and enjoyable dining experience for our valued customers. “We are grateful to our customers for their support.”

In Cowes, there’s a restaurant of fame,
Where Richard Branson once came to claim,
But its hygiene, oh dear,
Wasn’t something to cheer,
Now it’s better, they’ve upped their game!
Bahar Tandoori, the place,
Had a rating they couldn’t embrace,
But with swift correction,
And lots of reflection,
Now they’re aiming for a cleaner space!
Though they strive for a perfect five,
Four stars is what they derive,
It’s a sign of their might,
To keep things just right,
And ensure all their patrons survive!
Richard Branson was walking decades ago during Cowes week and was asked for a photo, he certainly didn’t dine there.
Good Lord, that old pic of Rishard Branson still in the window?? What is that now – 30 years???
So many food outlets have left themselves down with basics hygiene over the last couple of years but at least things are improving, just ashame there hasn’t been enough council staff. Hopefully this is sorted and are playing catch up.
There are places in Newport that aren’t showing the food hygiene scores which is a red flag to me.
Places scoring 3 or below or without any hygiene signage and I won’t use.
How can having the same tired poster of Dick Branson hanging in the window be remotely hygienic?
That only happens because Big Brother is watching and does a visit from Richard Branson make it perfect?
It couldn’t have been very bad or it would have been shut down

I have no idea how anyone could eat in the those ‘restaurants’. I can barely bare to walk past when it’s closed. There should be a law against that toxic aroma wafting out of my their kitchen.
Not clear whether Branson had the squits after his meal there.
