As the weather warms up in time for a brilliant long weekend, residents and visitors are being asked to do the simple things to help protect themselves and others this bank holiday.
While many people will be enjoying a trip to the beach, visiting an attraction or eating out, Simon Bryant, the council’s director of public health, says it is vital we all remain COVID-aware to help keep infection rates down.
He said:
“It’s simple to enjoy the weekend and, hopefully, some good weather, and stay safe.
“Simple and easy actions like washing our hands regularly, wearing a face covering, particularly in crowded areas such as public transport, and staying two metres apart are still the most effective things we can all do to help stop the spread of COVID-19 wherever we are.
“When the weather is so beautiful, try to meet people outside and somewhere off the beaten track. The council has published a list of different locations around the Island for us all to enjoy this summer.
“Testing is vital. Please continue to take regular rapid response LFT tests when you don’t have symptoms. If you develop symptoms, isolate immediately and get a PCR test.
“The Newclose test centre is open from 8.30am until 2pm, seven days a week and over the bank holiday weekend.
“The vaccine is available to everyone aged 16 and over now — please take advantage of the protection this offers you and others.”
Councillor Karl Love, Cabinet member for public health, added:
“I would ask everyone to continue to enjoy the Island safely over the bank holiday weekend and beyond.
“That includes asking our visitors to take a lateral flow test before, during and after their stay so that people can be safe and help us to manage COVID infection rates.
“There will be times when you are likely to be in close proximity with others outside your household, such as travelling to and from the Island, when particular care is needed. We all have a duty of care to respect and look after one another.”
For local COVID information, don’t forget to visit keeptheislandsafe.org
If you click on the “keeptheislandsafe.org” link and then click on “read more” you get to a page that states (eleventh line) “take care of our beautiful Island, it’s a Unesco Biosphere Reserve as well as our home”
I would like to see our Council take notice of that statement and stop permitting all the building and destruction of our beautiful island.
The IW Council need to adhere to what they state.
Simple.
Our previous council signed the Island up to a lot of things to get the grant money that came with the status but ignored the ‘rules’ that came with it.
Play it safe, hahahaha, it’s to late already.
So many people aren’t there. It’s scary as no one is following the guidance at all or very few any way. There are also some horrible groups of teenaged boys around at night being vile to young girls. Shouting abuse because they dress a differently. Not sure if they’re local if not? Need more police surveillance at the seafront in Ryde
crime rate always increases during the summer months, I’m sure that’s a massive clue as there are more mainlanders and foreigners here then, strange coincidence, I think not.
yes nan!!
how much more nannying and dictating can these puffed up admin workers do.
I am just so happy that the Iw council have given me permission to enjoy myself this weekend, I was getting a bit worried there for a moment….(who the hell do you think you are exactly, patronising pen pushers!) Get a real job. Nanny state says the computer says no.
Why is it mainly the rougher types of people who are the ones more likely to not wear masks, and at the same time congregate in groups, come up too close to you and generally use public transport talking loudly the whole time? I try not to categorize people too much but this is just detached observations. There are definitely more people who fall into the catagory of low life that are the ones most likely to not give a fig for other people’s well being or safety.
Why are the majority of people low life, maybe look a bit closer to home and you might recognize that it is people like your self that are rude, arragont, patronising and complete and utter snobs.
No it’s just the ignorant not the rougher types or people that are stupid unless you are a snob then everyone is rough ,there is people and people full stop the government have said you don’t have to wear a mask so blame them
The stupid gov saying people don’t have to wear masks is not the same as saying don’t full stop! Responsible people who care about public safety and have respect for other people do wear them in closed spaces or crowded places. Not wanting noisy, rude people barging into you and invading your personal space and arrogantly not caring is not being a snob. If it is, then i’d rather be a snob than one of these morons who think it is their right to be as obnoxious and ignorant as they like. People spreading any germs they have to everyone could be putting other people in danger, they don’t care about that, so i’d rather be a snob than be like any of those horrid types of people
You’re right and drunk boys who get bravado from being served alcohol under age as well. There’s trouble brewing this weekend I think if it carries on. I’m all for people having a good time but it’s these types who are reckless and dangerous
better stay indoors then, theres no mask mandate..
Wow tell that to all the people in supermarkets….
So many not bothered about mask wearing in confined spaces ?!.?!.
And all the scooter riders in morrisons in lake !!!
Best thing our Council could have done is stop all this crap and the Festival of Covid ……
Our 1 Hospital won’t cope with the aftermath …
Figures doubled in a week 3 on ventilation….
Vaccine waning ….
Say no more …
Except hands face space I now know of 2 people who have died and they were very careful ….
Why worry about covid when you have the ever present stench of scooter fumes to breathe in.
Why are you such a wet blanket, all you do is moan, moan, moan. With an attitude like you, what is the point of living. It is people like yourself that give the island a bad name. You are a complete embarrassment (unless you are on a complete wind up ?) If so, bravo!
Well it wound you up, but I still think those damn scooters are a menace. Have you wondered why the echo don’t seem to want to even mention they are here. Oh yeah and if I’m on a wind up, so is everyone else, I talk to hundreds of people in my job everyday, and they are sick and tired of holidaymakers attitudes, arrogant 2nd homeowners AND the scooters, where is the green parties stance on those pollution machines then ???
No, it’s people like you who give the Island a bad name. I’d hate to have to live next door to you. With an attitude like you’ve got, I bet you’re noisy, and loud at any hour you see fit. There are too many entitled, selfish people on this Island who want to turn it into a loud noisy horrible place full of fumes and bad behaviour in the name of “freedom”. Never a thought to how your horrible behaviour impacts on anyone else. People not wearing masks and shouting and yelling close to others could be spreading germs that ends someone;s life,, but you wouldn’t care. I’d be mortified at the thought that me not wearing a mask could end someones life without me even knowing. That’s the difference between people like you and people like me!
Well, I wouldn’t mind living next door to him,he sounds like a fair minded geezer. Living nextdoor to you guys would be like living in a library! Looking down your nose at ordenry folk and your constant judging, bloody baby boomers!
