The Isle of Wight Council asked residents for their help earlier this year to apply waste and recycling stickers to their Council-provided bins – now their waste service provider is teaming up with a local company to give a helping hand to those residents who haven’t applied theirs yet.
During August, the local company will be travelling around the Island applying bin stickers to those bins that have not covered the Amey logo.
Residents are asked to make sure that their bins are at their collection point by 07:00 on their usual day of collection.
If you have reusable sacks, they will be replaced with Council branded ones by the end of the year or when your sacks need replacing. Until then, continue to use the ones you have.
You do not need to do anything if you are on the assisted collection service, use a communal bin store, are a trade waste customer or on the garden waste service.
As part of the final phase of the Amey debrand, you may also spot a slight change to the look of your usual collection truck and crew as they collect waste and recycling from over 70,000 households across the Island.
Collection trucks and crew uniform will see the Amey logo replaced by a simple Isle of Wight Waste Services logo.
The fleet and PPE changes will take place over the next few weeks. This will not affect your waste and recycling collections in any way – it will be the usual collections in the same trucks by the same crew.
All changes are at the cost of the service provider, and not the Isle of Wight Council or Island residents.
Natasha Dix, Isle of Wight Council’s Strategic Manager for environment and waste, has said:
“I’d like to thank residents for helping our waste service provider by applying their bin stickers. The sticker option helped us to reduce waste by not disposing of current bins and helped stop us producing more unwanted plastic into the environment.
“Our waste provider is now in the final phase of sticker delivery, so don’t be alarmed if you see somebody applying stickers to your bin. I would also like to thank the collection crews who have been busy delivering and applying stickers at the same time as collecting all our waste and recycling.”
The need to cover the logo was due to the household waste service provider changing corporate ownership from Amey to a different company under Ferrovial. The stickers have been paid for and are being delivered by the waste service provider and were chosen as a more sustainable option than an Island-wide replacement of bins. There is no cost to the Council or residents in any way.

Another waste of Tax Payers money
Who cares if the name on the bin is wrong. Insane.
Absolutely ludicrous waste of money and effort. You wait months and months for roads, steps, and everything else to be fixed but shite like this is done pronto. This council are a disgrace. Sack them all.
Jobsworths – why on earth is it so important? Waste of effort and money. And if you could peel the backing off the stupid things in the first place it might have enabled people to comply.
why all the fuss over who’s name is on the bin,….
my washing up bowl has ADDIS on the side,.. that’s not my name, .. but I don’t fuss over covering it up
“need to cover the logo was due to”.. there is no NEED to… it’s just the new provider being pi$$y over having someone else’s logo on a bin they pick up for a few seconds…
Personally I don’t give a damn what it says…(for all I care, it can say Amey, IWCC, have a royal coat of arms, or even the french flag…) as long as they do what they’re paid to do & collect the rubbish, then that’s OK
Collect from over 70,000 homes? Lot that don’t bother then huh.why should I! Our taxes paid for those wasteful stickers wanting it be done BY US ….cheeky sods.its up too the new company who too sort that .lazy or what.
I have an assisted collection as disabled..they can’t even put black box back inside green or leave it near green so I struggle too put back.fed up of food bin being chucked in any place or split I had too get a brick stuck inside just so it would be left nearby!
Who gives a shit what names on them.get over it
Of course, if they actually had any sense they would not put stickers on in the first place and just tell the bin guys – empty all the bins put out – that way no expense on stickers and no waste of taxpayers money on rebranding
to easy really
Another cover up by the council, but at least they told us about this one. Branding gone mad, who damn well cares who collects the rubbish, as long it gets collected.
I’ve never received any stickers for my bins
What a load of rubbish.
Who cares what name is on the bins , it is more worrying that the Council is employing a firm to go around the Island with stickers to put on the bins , ( but then again its only Rate Payers money being spent on this project)
Absolutely pathetic waste of resources and even more bloody plastic. Bunch of morons
What a farce! I thought Boaty-McBoatface was bad enough; now this. Bins are bins.
As Councils outsource their refuge services to contractors, potentially every three years, it may be that AMEY doesn’t win the contract next time. So, if a new competitor comes, what follows, new labels?
Isle of Wight Council, this is one example of a waste of money. What next, repainting the perfectly OK white lines on the roads just because Island Roads didn’t paint the previous ones?
The Island charges a higher % for Council Tax vs Salary than London. This sticker farce is one area where it’s a waste of taxpayers’ money.
I will remove any stickers placed on my bin. You should do the same. The council as representatives of us should not be entertaining such ridiculous plans. Like others have already said, no-one cares. This is some loony idea, I say that the idiot who came up with it should be made to walk the entire IOW and do it themselves.
How old are you… ?
I received stickers even though I’m an assisted collection and wasn’t meant do it myself anyway!! Wasteful idiots
I see that the changes are all being done at the contractor’s expense, but of course this will have been passed back to the council and ultimately those of us who pay for the service. It’s a bit risky asking the end user to put stickers on, what if someone injures themselves in the process. Presumably as they’ve asked me to do it they have formslly engaged my services…..who do I send my invoice to?
What about all of these bins covered with floral patterns and other attempts to prettify them? Will they peel all of that off too? I agree that we should remove all stickers.
Here’s a tip, don’t put corporate branding on everything!
It’s a shame they waste money like this, but allow the canoe lake paddling pool at Ryde to fall into disrepair. Merchant Bankers, the lot of them.
A wunch of bankers no less.
Well put your stickers on then..save a few quid sending someone else out to do it.
So, if the refuse is now organised by the Council, how about doing the same with the roads, that would really be a wonderful decision. Maybe the council would have more money to do worthwhile things without the overcharge of Island Roads!
You really don’t have a clue what you are talking about. Maybe do a little research and find out who actually runs/owns/backs Island Roads. Hint: the council are a major partner.
Why keep wasting our hard earned cash.
If people had put the stickers on they wouldn’t of had to employ someone else
To do it. Took all of a
Couple of minutes. Why not try and help save money instead of
Expecting someone to wipe your area for you. I expect there is a legal requirement to cover up the old livery on the bins, or should they have been asked to give us all new bins wasting more money. Contractors don’t do things for nothing. Stop bloody moaning and try and
Do a little something to help. Sweet Jesus it’s not that difficult…
Totally stupid idea,we already have correct coloured bin,on an island only one bin collector of these colours so who cares and stickers make no difference. Anyhow most bins, like all 3 of mine, already say Isle of Wight Council !
it’s not about the time and effort to put the stickers on,,…
it’s about the pathetic attitude of the company / council in demanding that the previous logo is covered up.
why TF does it matter!!
It doesn’t affect the bin’s ability to hold rubbish,
and it doesn’t affect the ability of the bin men (sorry persons) to pick up the bins and empty them.
I actually think that it is a waste of money
