Cracks appearing at the front of a property on Hunts Road. The Isle of Wight Council has told people to ‘stay away’ from the recent landslip in St Lawrence and confirmed that further surveys on the area will be undertaken tomorrow (Monday). As previously reported by Island Echo, land in St Lawrence near Undercliff Drive fell overnight causing disruption to at least 2 properties on the roads below. Those living in a house on Old Park Road made the decision to leave their home after they felt it move overnight (Friday into Saturday), whilst cracks appeared on the driveway of another property – on the nearby Hunts Road. Island Roads has since closed Old Park Road to all traffic due to several – almost impassable – cracks appearing in the road surface. It is expected that these will worsen in the coming days. Scottish and Southern Electricity Network (SSEN) engineers were also called to the area over the weekend to fix a problem with an underground power line, however some of the sites in which they are working appear to be badly flooded. Just over 24 hours since the incident unfolded, the Isle of Wight Council has said that further monitoring and assessments will begin tomorrow (Monday). A council spokesperson said:
“Further surveys and monitoring will be undertaken on Monday. “At this time, private road closures and rights of way closures are in place. “We do advise that drivers and walkers stay away from the affected area and respect closure signs and diversions. “The land movement is contained within private property.”
“COUNCIL SAYS ‘STAY AWAY’ FROM LANDSLIP IN ST LAWRENCE” I accept your strange and unorthadox challenge. I hope it’ll be like gladiators with 5 council workers kitted up to stop me getting through.

So another area walkers are to be deprived of enjoying this Easter. Anyone would think that this Council prefers building to tourists now.
Inland ground movement is awful for the poor home owners but still should not prevent walkers. All OTT or no action at all from this useless Council.
You’re not forbidden, it’s advisory. Thing is, knowing there is a risk if they left it open unadvised and the land gave way and people were injured, they are legally liable. If you take the risk after advice and are injured, YOU are legally liable for your own potentially life threatening repercussions. No work, no money, many limitations. You choose. But don’t blame common sense if you have none yourself.
Grow up John, that wasn’t a rant, it was pointing out WHY a council takes that action. You’re really not keen on women having a point of view, are you? Tough.
You certainly aren’t short of opinions but sadly lacking in facts. Sufficient detail was provided in the article without your patronising repetition. Are you a council spokesperson?

The Island is gradually falling apart, build a Bridge or a Tunnel
to make the island feel a larger place.
There are already plenty of bridges and tunnels on the island. Take your pick (or shovel).

Feel for those living along that road and area, yes owners may of had more financial means than some, but they all worked hard for it and now could all be lost . So very sad ,such a lovely area .
