A boundary-filled friendly at Westhill Road saw Hurricanes RFC chase down 183 with an over remaining, condemning Shanklin & Godshill’s Midweek XI to a 5-wicket defeat.
Shanklin & Godshill’s Midweek XI won the toss and chose to bat first at Westhill Road, but were ultimately run down by a Hurricanes RFC side who chased down the target with an over to spare in a high-scoring, boundary-laden run-fest.
Batting first, the home side lost early wickets with George Griffith (4) and Adam Manning (6) both back in the hutch cheaply, but a string of unbeaten contributions in the middle order dragged the total up to a competitive 182 for 6.
Will Mew top-scored with 35 not out, striking five fours and a six, while Ollie Morgan (32 not out) and Olly Niemiec (32 not out, retired) also chipped in with vital knocks. Andy Dingle added a brisk 17 further down the order. Extras were significant too, with 28 coming largely from 14 wides and 10 no-balls conceded by the Hurricanes attack.
Matt Misselbach was the pick of the Hurricanes bowlers, taking 2 for 15, with Nathan Moore, Issac, Liam Little and Jordan Langdon each picking up a wicket apiece as the innings closed on 182 for 6 from 19.3 overs.

Chasing 183, Hurricanes lost opener Ben Shannon early for 8, bowled by Max Bushby-Harris, but the innings was built around three fine retired-not-out knocks. Jordan Langdon (31), Tom Marriott (30) and C Ormerod (32) all retired having done the heavy lifting, keeping the required rate firmly within reach.
George Griffith was Shanklin’s most effective bowler, taking 2 for 16, while Ollie Morgan, Will Mew and Max Bushby-Harris each claimed a wicket. Despite the middle order stumbling briefly – Liam Little stumped by Olly Niemiec off Will Mew for a duck – Nathan Proud (23 not out) and Harry Miselbach (4 not out) saw the visitors home, reaching 183 for 5 with an over in hand.
A cracking friendly finish on the Isle of Wight, with the game swinging late but Hurricanes RFC’s middle-order retirements proving decisive as they overhauled Shanklin & Godshill’s total to seal the win by 5 wickets.
