Three members of Isle of Wight-based Wight Tri were in action across the UK last weekend, taking on a trio of challenging events and producing impressive performances.
Annette Hickman travelled to London to compete in the London T100 Olympic Triathlon for the first time. After making a strong start in the swim, her race took an unexpected turn when she fell while mounting her bike, leaving her bruised but able to continue.
Further challenges followed when confusing course signage saw several competitors, including Annette, take a wrong turn. Despite the setbacks, she completed the event with a smile and is already looking forward to returning next year.
In Nottingham, Dean Pike lined up for the Outlaw Ironman Triathlon, where competitors faced an unexpected change when the swim was cancelled due to blue-green algae.

Instead, athletes completed an additional 3.8-mile run before tackling the bike and marathon. Battling strong crosswinds throughout the day, Dean crossed the finish line in an impressive time of 10:46:11.
Having recovered from a serious injury last year, his performance demonstrated both resilience and determination.
Meanwhile, Katy Penn made her standard-distance triathlon debut at Dorney Lake. She negotiated challenging conditions during the swim before producing a strong performance on the fast 8-lap bike course and digging deep on the closing 10km run.
Katy completed the event in 2:54:10, marking an excellent debut over the distance.
The trio’s performances rounded off another successful weekend for Wight Tri, with members continuing to represent the Isle of Wight at events across the country.
