A campsite off in the village of Calbourne could be transformed into ‘upmarket and high-end’ glamping accommodation.
Mike and Sean Fursse-Smith have applied to the Isle of Wight Council for planning permission to build self-contained glamping pods utilising 3 shipping containers as part of an ‘exciting upgrade’ to a holiday site.
The Mill Heights Campsite, in Calbourne, currently accommodates up to 5 caravans or motorhomes and 10 tents at any one time, and has been used for camping and caravanning for the last 14 years.
A Planning Statement from the Fursse-Smiths’ agent, the Andrew White Planning Consultancy, says:
“This is a well thought out, meticulously researched and carefully presented scheme for an upmarket and high-end glamping holiday offer in a quiet haven which promotes the natural beauty of the rural landscape and will increase consumer choice for holiday accommodation on the Island.
“This application seeks to strategically place three 40ft former shipping containers across the site, which are to be converted for use as high end luxury holiday accommodation each designed to accommodate two people.
“The scheme will also include a smaller 20ft container for use as a reception/office/storage unit. The scheme is intended to operate on an all-year-round basis for short term holiday rentals only (minimum stay of two nights).
“Each unit will comprise an open plan living/dining area, fully equipped kitchen, double bedroom and shower room/WC.”
The application also includes plans for a reception and bike store, a bin store and parking and landscaping.
County Hall’s public consultation on the proposal ends on 28th February, with a decision date scheduled for 29th April.
As its already a camp site,i dont see an issue, but putting “ high end” and shipping containers together is hilarious
but nimbys will complain as always
Containers are ugly, a blot on the Landscape.
