COMMUNITIES ON THE ISLE OF WIGHT URGED TO TAKE A STAND AGAINST ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner is showing its support for Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week, which started yesterday (Monday).

The national campaign, running from 3rd to 9th July 2023, aims to encourage communities to speak out against ASB and to highlight the actions that can be taken by those experiencing it.

#ASBAwarenessWeek has been organised by Resolve, the UK’s leading ASB and community safety organisation, and features events across the UK involving police forces, councils, housing associations, charities, community groups and sports clubs.

Article continues below this advertisement

The theme for 2023 is Know Your Rights, with a particular focus on the ASB Case Review which is a powerful tool for victims of ASB that only 6% of people know about. The ASB Case Review (formerly known as the community trigger) gives victims of persistent anti-social behaviour the right to request a multi-agency case review.

Recent YouGov research commissioned by Resolve found that almost 1 in 5 people have had to consider moving home because of the impact ASB was having on them and 1 in 10 have actually moved. Despite this, over 50% of those surveyed who were either a victim or witness of ASB did not report it.

The Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, Terry Norton, said:

“The Commissioner, Donna Jones, and I are committed to tackling ASB as it destroys the lives of victims and communities and can be a precursor to more serious crime. Driving down anti-social behaviour is one of the Commissioner’s key priorities in her Police and Crime Plan and the ASB Taskforce, which she created 2 years ago, takes action to prevent and combat ASB, because it’s so important that residents and businesses don’t suffer in silence.”

Since the launch of the ASB Taskforce in July 2021, reports of anti-social behaviour have decreased. From 1st April 2020 to 31st March 2021, there were 37,325 incidents recorded in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. That figure went down to 29,201 for 1st April 2021 to 31st March 2022, and the total declined even further the following year, 1st April 2022 to 31st March 2023, with a total of 22,418 ASB incidents recorded across the 2 counties.

Deputy Commissioner Terry Norton added:

“The ASB Taskforce, which brings together the police, our Violence Reduction Unit and community safety partnerships, is continuing to have a real and measurable impact across our communities.”

“The Commissioner and I want to do everything we can to support the Neighbourhood Policing Teams in tackling ASB and the Taskforce ensures that we all work together effectively so funds can be targeted where they are needed the most.”

“Often young people most at risk of becoming involved in violence are participating in ASB so community based initiatives that divert and support young people are among the projects being funded.”

Funding from the ASB Taskforce for programmes across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight include electric bikes on the Island so neighbourhood officers can greater target locations and individuals, a youth outreach programme in Ryde on the Isle of Wight and a beach sports programme for young people in Ryde.

Chief Executive of Resolve, Rebecca Bryant OBE, said:

“It’s vital that the challenge of ASB continues to be given the priority it needs so that people feel safe in their homes and communities. We’re delighted that the Police and Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones, and her Deputy, Terry Norton, are supporting this hugely important campaign, as partnership approaches across communities are developed to deal with the growing challenges around ASB.”

ASB incidents should be reported to the anti-social behaviour team at the local Council, or to the Police if members of the public feel they are at immediate risk or in danger.

Almost ALL feral youths are from families who receive benefits to fund these children via child tax credits, or universal credit, and of course child allowance, free or subsidised rent and council tax.

Add free school meals, prescriptions, dental care, school transportation, school uniforms etc etc

So the easiest way to end feral children is to not ‘pay’ people to have a child, but do as people used to do, work harder if you decide to bring in another life into your impoverished world.

Then only wanted children who do not have ‘issues’ would be born.

Now, they need to cut all benefits to anti-social families and make them rely on hand outs to keep they in food and clothing, so they feel shame not ‘their right’ to breed.

Perhaps the parent or rarely parents of feral children are NOT familiar with free contraception or abortion

They NEVER will be all the time emptying the womb provides a better income and less or zero hours spent working.

Think, if capable

Both you and maggot are the pinnacle of hope for all of society. Well done you’ve offered nothing of value and nothing of consequence other than tripe. You are clearly dinosaurs there is a root cause to all societal problems and you ancient beings that made my generation have caused irreparable damage to the earth and have had just as much sex as those supposed rabbit hutches your so profoundly fond of get a grip man the problem goes much deeper than a bunch of youths having kids to get a house and you should know as its your generation that caused it so you dont be blaming government for all the problems I get freedom of speech was less available but is this what your choosing to use your newfound voice our ancestors so bravely fought for?

I would never come on here and flat out call someone an idiot, I would never for one minute suggest that if you knew that you knew nothing, that would be the one and only thing you knew. I’d never do that so I won’t.

All children get free prescriptions you absolute weapon. Oops. My righteous indignation showed.

‘The national campaign, running from 3rd to 9th July 2023, aims to encourage communities to speak out against ASB and to highlight the actions that can be taken by those experiencing it.’

I think it might be a great idea if we all got together and put a load of money into a fund. This could then be used to employ a force of people to help protect us from things like crime and anti social behaviour. We could also then employ someone to head this force and draw a big salary, while telling us things that we already know. Who’s with me?

“Reports of anti-social behaviour have declined” – this is due not to a decline in such, but as a result of years of Police inaction and disinterest. Here in West Wight for example, feral youths go round with impunity, drug dealing is closely associated, one tries to give them a wide berth. The only Police seen here drive through in their 4×4, without stopping.
Feral youths rule especially in the late afternoon and evenings – a male youth ran across Moa Place a couple of weeks back ànd threw something at a passing bus’s windscreen, as it swung past – it happened right in front of me.
I spent hours the same evening trying to report it on 101, but even after over an hour, no one picked up the phone. After many attempts I had to give up.

Totally agree, reduced reporting only because you can’t get hold of police101 for Hampshire and IOW is a joke, often 30/45mins just to get through, then they try and transfer you again and give up. Having had cause to ring MET police 101- answered in 3mins and rightly interested in what information I was giving them than my details. Bring back IOW police control,so much better, given lower crime could be even better.

She might be showing support, shame her force aren’t!. Even if gets to Court no punishment or consequence – just more fear for victim.

I called the Law over 20 years ago due to an incident taking place in
Sandown with a wild rave taking place and cars were driving erratically
“They never turned up”

Complete waste of tax payers money.

The Law is only employed to protect the so called Elite.

Take what’s happening in London with the Just Stop Oil protesters
They are Stopping Ambulances going along etc, the Law does nothing about it.

When they tried to interrupt Charlie’s Coronation day the Law soon stepped in.

Same ! Reported a druggie driver speeding about 20 times and nothing has ever happened he’s been doing it yrs , just get told to keep reporting him but how long for. When he eventually kills someone and this is near a primary school which I have pointed out and at all times of day then maybe they’ll listen but too late then .

Good on you for trying, It’s shameful that apathy towards druggery seems to be a characteristic in the Police – no wonder you are Despondant.
Heartened that there are concerned people like yourself, trying..

This is terrible. The Police need to get these bastards sorted out. This type of behaviour ruins communities. Makes you want to get a group together and go sort out these disrespectful, out of control little runts and teach them some manners! They quite obviously have not been shown the correct way to behave by their parents! So many kids these days have/are being let down by their so called parents, who don’t seem to give a fig what their little shits get up to just as long as they stay out of their way.

On the Island there is no law and order.
The Military Road is like a race track, you can see that
by the tyre marks left on the road.

The law could not catch a cold yet alone speeding motorists.

How about the police coming out of their offices and conduct regular proactive patrols in the well known trouble areas then combine that with realistic punishment through the courts for the perpetrators instead of the farcical slap on the wrist.
Sadly discipline both at home and school has been outlawed by vociferous pc do gooders and society is slowly but surely breaking down.

Report it and nothing happens. Except you then get victimised by the people being reported. Anti social neighbours are absolutely the worst. A friend had some. They would smash stuff up at 2am. Scream obscenities for half the night. The neighbours called the police and social services and the friend gets the blame. Verbal abuse follows and accusations. The police do sweet fa. In the end he employed a solicitor at £300hr to sue their landlord. The solicitor said the police are useless and they should have issued an asbo at the get go.

Like I have mentioned several time on here we need vigilanties to sort the scum out. The police do nothing or very little after several reports, so are failing to sort the problem out. By failing or refusing to take that action, they are encouraging the problem to continue. We need to rid of the do gooders who are stopping the proper way to deal with the problem, who are by interfering encouraging the problem also.

Trouble is, it will be the vigilante action that attracts the Police. Not the ASB crew

The fact is that vigilantes are always half-wit idiots and their kids are usually causing the problem. Look back at any recent newspaper reports of vigilante groups and you will find that they are total scum pretending to to do good for their community but actually just nutters spoiling for a fight. These supposed vigilantes are just thieves, wife beaters, benefits cheats, drug dealers, and other low lifes. The good people who are tortured by these ASBO scum kids would never dream of breaking the law and that is why they are targeted by these scum.

The police cannot be trusted to keep your details safe so if you give them all the personal information regarding yourself then it is almost certain they will “inadvertently” release your details to the scum concerned,
Let them know when and for how long you will be on holiday in the futile hope they might just keep an eye on your property then sit back and wait for the burglary report.

Nothing ever gets done, more talk no action.

The Island is good at that, don’t tell me they want more of our
Council tax money.

Everyday when driving along the Road Anti-social behaviour is rife.

It ranges from persons:-
Parking on Pavements.
Leaving vehicles along Roads with NO mot.
Parking on Double Yellow lines.
Driving whilst using a mobile phone.
Turning into no right turn roads, like the NO right turn in Brading.
Scooters and Cyclists riding and cycling down the wrong side of the Road
going against oncoming traffic.

THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOUR IS HAPPENING EVERYDAY AND NOTHING GETS DONE ABOUT IT

IS THERE ANY LAW OR RULES ON THE ISLAND!.

I suspect that if you lived in Bembridge/Seaview/Seagrove Bay the Police would be there pretty promptly.
So is that the answer: somehow encourage the offenders to operate in Bembridge?

That is right, they could be making thousands by getting 1 Bobby to walk the
Beat checking Car Registration plates of vehicles parked along Roads and Streets.

I am surprised IW Council don’t send out their Enforcement Officers to check
Vehicles.

They prefer prancing around Seafronts and Car Parks booking innocent people
who might have gone over their allocated time.

Get Illegal vehicles off the road

You can’t even mention the amount of vandalism, drug dealing and general anti social behaviour in Totland and Freshwater on social media as the “page owners” get all upset and block the posts.

“Take a stand against anti social behaviour”
People do that by calling the police to deal with the problem, who won’t attend.
Taking the law into your own hands will not work, it’s not the 60s anymore and you will be arrested.
And if they find out it was you who called the police on them, you will have to move as they will likely burn your house to the ground.
Put this useless commissioner and the useless MP in a police car and they can drive around together sorting out all the islands problems like batman and robin.

Isn’t it the job of the police to tackle anti-social behaviour?

Get the police out of their offices and cars and get them out on the street.

As our prisons are now filled with the worlds dross there is no room to imprison our own criminals unless they are worse than those already inside.

So the Police even if catching feral scum know that the courts won’t or can’t do anything so the issue grows ever worse.

If we never had so much enriching then we , as we did, could once again jail our own rubbish

It used to be that the parents of feral children got hauled in front of a magistrate to explain what THEY would do about their child’s behaviour. There is no come-back on parents anymore and no stigma. If parents were penalised for their child’s behaviour, there might be a change in the child.

Don’t give up people – keep reporting crimes, no matter how hard it seems. Web, phone or directly to the Police. We have to keep trying. I know it’s difficult – I’ve been subject to much ASB myself and experienced the unbelievable actions of these youths. Beyond belief at times. So we have to do our duty – we have to keep reporting it. I believe the Police and the PCC are trying with ASB Awareness weeks etc – resources constrained. But they are failing. Under resourced and constrained due to social problems where their hands are tied. I’ve called for sniffer dogs at IoW ferry ports to try and stop and curb the drugs problem – a major cause of issues. Hopefully that will help. But it’s a war. We have to carry on fighting.

Sort out all the problem families on the island who think it’s ok to let their kids roam the streets getting up to God knows what well into the night. Good parenting seems to be seriously lacking these days. It’s not the Police’s job to bring up these ferral kids, it’s the parents of these kids that need a good kick up the arse! Perhaps they should attend classes to teach them how to control and discipline their brats! Everyone on this island has had enough of ASB. Is it a case of ‘kids having kids’ and they don’t know what good parenting is?

And how do you propose to sort them out? The only solution is better policing. We pay for it and we should shout loudly until we get it. Plenty of places on the mainland have imposed curfews and enforced them. Why can’t island police do the same?

I’ve been reporting ASB to the council and police for weeks and they’ve done diddly squat. It’s a PR exercise and if they cared, they’d staff it properly.
