Over the course of the last 2 weeks, all students in Year 7 at Christ the King College left the classroom and pulled on their wetsuits, helmets and lifejackets to enjoy a thrilling morning of sailing and water sports as part of UKSA’s ‘Test the Water’ programme.
Despite the odd rainy day, this opportunity to break out of their comfort zones and have fun with their friends in such a safe and supportive environment was welcomed by the students.
As well as covering aspects of water safety (vital for children living on an island), these sessions were designed to build students’ confidence in the water and to develop their skills in communication, resilience, and teamwork.
The students got to try out a number of activities over the various sessions, ranging from kayaking to giant paddle-boarding, to shoreline orienteering and team dinghy sailing.
It was impressive how quickly students took to these new adventures and ‘sailed’ through their training… not to mention the impressive splash some form groups made as they jumped in for an impromptu swim!
In fact, it was so much fun that even staff couldn’t resist getting involved, and students got to see their form tutors and teachers test their sea-legs too.
A Christ the King spokesperson said:
“A big thank you to the staff at UKSA for their enthusiasm and professionalism, and for providing a much needed outdoor educational experience for our children.
“All students were wonderful ambassadors to the College and we would like to thank them for the respect and enthusiasm they showed whilst on the trip. We hope they had great fun, learnt something new and are now inspired to get on the water again soon!”
