VIDEO: CCTV footage showing the last known movements of missing 71-year-old pensioner Michael Davies has been released by Police, with the revelation that he was carrying a torch.
Mr Davies, who was visiting the Island from his home town of Blaina in Wales with his wife, went missing from the Hotel Maria last Tuesday evening – he has not been seen since. Island Echo understands the couple had an argument and Mr Davies left the hotel.
Now, CCTV footage has finally been released showing the pensioner walking along Avenue Road away from the seafront at 00:43 on Wednesday morning. Unfortunately, despite intensive searching, Police have been unable to locate Mr Davies.
As reported by Island Echo yesterday, the search effort has intensified with mainland dog units brought over to Sandown alongside water search equipment and the re-tasking of the National Police Air Support helicopter from Bournemouth.
Officers from Hampshire Constabulary’s Force Support Unit have been searching the canoe lake by Dinosaur Isle in Sandown this afternoon (Thursday) as part of the ongoing investigations.
One Island Echo reader has been in touch to say they believe they spotted Mr Davies near the Sandown cycle path last week, but say Police didn’t call back until the next day when they admitted the area had not yet been searched. Yesterday (Wednesday) the area was at the center of an aerial helicopter search.
Michael Davies is described as white with cropped white hair. He was last seen wearing jeans, a horizontal striped blue and white T-shirt, a blue jumper with the number 95 on the front and a cream coloured baseball cap.
Residents in the area are being asked to check gardens, sheds, outbuildings or caravans in case Mr Davies has sought refuge.
Anyone who may have seen Mr Davies or has any information as to his whereabouts are asked to contact Police on 101.
