UPDATED: A fleet of the the national Zapcats that featured in this year’s Aqua Adrenaline water sports event at Yaverland will be racing around the Island from Lymington this Saturday.
Leaving the mainland at midday, the Zapcats will be racing alongside Thundercats, who also race in a national series. The high-speed craft will leave Lymington before heading around The Needles and then along the South coast of the Isle of Wight before heading north again at Ventnor towards Sandown.
The crews, who are set to turn around nar to Sandown Pier before heading back to Lymington, are being assisted by local sailor and watersports event organizer Tony Gibbs with support from Yaverland Sailing Club and the Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat.
Tony has said:
“They will be seen from various vantage points around the Island as they race from Lymington.
“It should prove quite a spectacle but you will have to be there on time as they move extremely quickly on the water”.
UPDATE: The race marks will be positioned opposite Wightwater in Lake, outside of the speed restriction zone.
