A candle fire at a property in Binstead yesterday evening (Wednesday) saw multiple appliances from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service mobilised.
As previously reported by Island Echo, crews from Newport and Ryde were called to the scene on Chestnut Close at around 18:00.
Upon arrival, smoke and flames were seen issuing from the ground floor of the property. Those inside had managed to vacate the premises before the fire took hold.
The blaze – caused by a candle – was extinguished by firefighters in breathing apparatus sets using hose reels and jets before ventilation fans were used to rid the property of smoke.
Crews at the scene conducted home fire safety visits before the stop message came at 18:32.
